Welcome New School Leaders

Welcome to the following people who begin their tenure of leadership in our Dominican high schools:

Dominican Schools Across the Globe

We received a request this summer from Sr. Carolyn Terencio, OP, Principal of the Dominican International School in Taipei, Tawain to join our DASS organization. In her letter of application, Sr. Carolyn indicated that she was "looking  for a group of Dominican schools to which our schools could do some networking. If our students could see that they are not the only Dominicans and see the extent of the Dominican presence in the world, I am sure it would strengthen their identity and pride to be Dominican." The website for Dominican International School is www.dishs.tp.edu.tw.

We have been in communication with the network of schools in the Philippines and will update you about these schools in the fall.

Prayer Service Supplement for 9/11 Commemorations

Sr. Jane Meyer of St. Agnes Academy has kindly shared this ecumenical prayer service supplement for commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, originally from the Coalition for Mutual Respect.

Congratulations To...

  • St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans which is in the midst of an 18-month celebration of its sesquicentennial. The heritage begun by St. Dominic continued with the seven Sisters from Cabra, Ireland who founded the school in 1860. Today, St. Mary's Dominican High School, now under the aegis of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, continues its rich tradition of excellence in Catholic Dominican education.
  • Sr. Jane Meyer, OP, Head of School at St. Agnes Academy in Houston, TX who has been recognized by the Texas Executive Women's organization (TEW)  with the "Woman on the Move" award for her passion and leadership in women's Catholic education.

Connect with Others via our Listserves

We now have four email groups to help you network with other Dominican schools. Send a blank email with the word "subscribe" in the subject line to one of the addresses listed below and join in the discussions.
  • list-dass-advancement@spdom.org - Advancement: for those in advancement, marketing and development
  • list-dass-ministry@spdom.org - Ministry: for those teaching religion or theology or serving as campus ministers
  • list-dass-counselors@spdom.org - Counselors: for school counselors and advisors
  • list-dass-leadership@spdom.org - Leadership: for school presidents, principals and deans as well as congregation leaders
A listserve is like a group email list--when you send a message to the listserve, everyone on the listserve receives your message (including you!).
  • To subscribe and become a member of an email group, open your email client and compose a new message. In the "TO" field, type in (or copy and paste) the address for the list you wish to join (see above). In the "SUBJECT" field type the word SUBSCRIBE. You can leave the body of the email blank. Then hit send. You must reply to the confirmation email message you will receive in order to begin receiving messages from the listserve.
  • Once you have subscribed, you can send a message to all subscribers at once. Just compose a message with the list address in the "TO:" field. You will receive a copy of your own message in your inbox (that's just the way it works).
  • To unsubscribe, send a message to the list address containing the subject line UNSUBSCRIBE.
If you have any technical questions about subscribing to the list, please contact Sheila Wathen, swathen@sjaschool.org.
If you have any questions about DASS, please contact Pat Brady, OP at pbrady8798@aol.com.
